[SAVE] and [LOAD]

Considering who and what he is, it'd be no fun if Flowey didn't get to join in all those fun time travel shenanigans! Flowey has the ability to SAVE/LOAD. Limited time travel, in other words. In threads, this will work out by having save points marked in tag headers as [Save Point 1], etc. Flowey can then "reload" back to that tag and reply from there, as if everything after that tag didn't happen.

This, of course, won't be happening without player permission! So here's a handy little something for you to fill out, if you'd be so kind.

Once upon a time, there was a happy little prince. One day, he decided to help a blossoming rampant sociopath out, and surprise of all surprises! This got him killed. But as one infamous movie about similarly undead people may tell, death...is only the beginning.

Centuries after a war between monsters and humans, monsters had been cast underground, and kept there by a magic spell which totally makes sense shut up human magic only gets ret-conned AFTER the fact. Asriel was thus born under these conditions; a prince to monster kind, locked beneath a mountain named Ebott... growing into a young boy without much of the nature inspired experiences one might take for granted. During this time period, a human very coincidentally fell down a hole and into the Underground. What had driven them to climb the mountain was unknown, but their fall left them injured and calling out desperately for help.

Asriel, hearing their cry, brought the child to their family, and thus, Chara found a home with their new parents and sibling. Of much stronger character than Asriel, Chara was easily able to endear themself to the Dreemurr family, particularly to the young prince. Friendship blossomed between them over an unknown period of time, leading to an exchanging of friendship lockets (best friends forever!) and even secrets; such as the fact that Chara's reason for climbing the mountain 'hadn't been a very happy one'. Despite this, Asriel considered Chara to be the only one who understood them, showing an undeniable amount of devotion that even went to the point of regarding Chara as the only person who truly understood him. This devotion allowed him to brush aside teasing that he was a crybaby, and even join in on some of Chara's own fun, such as making a special pie for their father.

But they accidentally added a special ingredient to the concoction. CHEMICAL X Extremely poisonous buttercups. When Asgore (their father), became extremely ill because of this, Asriel was...extremely upset. In contrast, Chara laughed the entire situation off, proving that Asriel either completely swept that concerning hysteria fit under the rug, or ignored a pretty big indicator for the oncoming storm. And Asgore was fine too no worries.

What this did cause was a spark of inspiration in Chara that was entirely insidious. Captured on a camcord because Chara was either exceptionally stupid or Asriel just had really goddamn big fingers, Chara brought forward the idea that they should die, and allow Asriel to absorb their soul. He could then go through the barrier, and free everyone.

Chara liked this plan. Asriel didn't. Unsurprisingly, Chara got their way, to the extent of having Asriel collect the buttercups they would use to induce an illness that would inevitably cause their body to fail. And none of the other monsters thought anything of this because they're doctors but they're not doctors, they're astrophysicists and all they could do was sit around and be useless.

Chara mentions on their deathbed that their one wish would be to see the flowers from their village again, immediately making everyone feel really shitty for not being capable of making this wish come true, and further baiting their partner in crime into a life of- crime. They died that same night, and as promised, Asriel absorbed their soul.

The thing about absorbing souls is that person is dead so technically, it should simply be a power exchange. Despite the fact that there are no implications to the alternative in any other incidents of soul absorption during the game outside of feeling some...wriggling and emotions, Chara continued winning out on the Ain't I A Stinker award of 201X and decided to hitch a ride as co-pilot of  Asriel ex-machina, collecting up their human body for Reasons and stalking off into the night. Chara walked them both to their village, at which point they laid their body upon the flowers and prepared to walk everyone watching in horror straight to the cauldrons of hell.

Asriel didn't like that. And as their Drift Compatibility wore off, he regained control of his body, refusing to fight the humans around them. Assaulted and gravely wounded, he retreated with Chara's body in his arms, again for Reasons, making a hasty dash back to home. New Home. The king wasn't all that good at names.

It's at this point that his dust spread across the throne room floor, also scattering an abundance of flower seeds about the place. Leaving his parents with two dead kids and a kingdom without hope.

Which is about the point where it stops being funny.

Whilst Flowey's prior history is, in some ways, important, his story really begins after death. As recounted during the No Mercy run, Asriel awakens in the flowerbed alone after Dr Alphys injects a flower (the first flower that grew from the outside world) with Determination, accidentally bringing Asriel back to life. Realizing he's a few appendages short, the young prince turned flower cried out into the darkness- "Mommy, daddy! Somebody help!" But nobody came.

And then Asgore came, and to the best of his abilities, he attempted to reassure his son that everything would be okay. It was at this point that Asriel discovered he couldn't feel anything. Not love for his father, nor any positive sentimentality. Despite his best efforts, his father could not help him, and impulsively, Asriel ran away from home. Far, far away; as far as the Underground would allow him to. It was there, within the ruins of Home (not to be mistaken for New Home) that he found her. Toriel, his mother, had sought out exile after the vile turn her husband had taken; declaring war against humanity, and beginning to collect the souls of any human who fell down- all of whom coincidentally were children.

She of all people could help him, Asriel initially assumed, but once again these attempts were for naught. Despairing at his inability to love, Asriel became despondent. There was only one person who could help him, he thought...and they were dead.

Resigned to his fate, Asriel attempted suicide. It was at the point where he was on the brink of death when the oddest sensation hit him. A desperation, an urge...the determination to live. All at once, Asriel found himself back in the garden, as if nothing he had done had ever come to be in the first place. He had found what he dubbed, his SAVE point.

Asriel played with this concept for some time. Again and again, he brought himself to the brink of death...and LOADED his SAVE. He was, in a cruel twist of irony, somewhat immortal. And initially, his prior personality as a kind hearted child caused him to seek out what good was left in the world; to be that good. Again and again, he helped the people around him, solving their problems and making friends. Initially, this proved to be for the best, however Asriel began to wonder; “What would this person say if I gave them this? What would they do if I said this to them? Once you know the answer, that’s it. That’s all there is to them.” The timelines he began to see were so linear, so simple, that he became...bored. Never a good thing when you have time powers and zero consequences.

It began as a simple question. What would happen if he killed someone? The thought was rejected over and over, Asriel balking from the very idea of the action, until... the concept began to grow on him. He wasn't going to do it because he was a bad person, after all. It was simply that he had to know.

And it was at this point that Asriel began his true transition into Flowey the Flower. Killing was an altogether new experience, and one he came to enjoy. Knowing what he did about all the others available to him in the Underground, Flowey was capable of doing all that his small world had to offer. He made friends with every person. He killed every person. He read every book. He burned every book. With his father now at the forefront of the very thing that that Asriel had died not doing, he began to see the true values of the world. Dog eat dog. Kill or be killed.

Everything he had already done, and everything he continued to do...brought him no satisfaction. There was only one thing left that Flowey wished for. To free monster kind...and show them the true meaning of the world. To show them what humans were really like, and to let them share in his suffering.

Time passes. More linearly than before, soul after soul being collected until only one was left. Flowey attempted during this period to have Asgore show him the human souls; to allow him to consume them, and let him become a god. Nothing he attempted caused Asgore to do what he wanted. Another person that Flowey became quite familiar with was Papyrus, who, in some timelines, even created what was dubbed 'the flowey fanclub'.

And then finally-

The actual game started go get yourself some tea mods I'm not done.

However long it had been plus whatever many timelines does things to a flower. Officially Bored (TM) with life, Flowey did one of the only things he could do. Sit at the sight of Chara's grave, and call for them. It wasn't very effective... until the eighth child finally fell down into the Underground! And then it was! It was super effective!

The first monster there to greet that child? Flowey. Completely gone was the innocent child that kindly assisted those who needed his help; with a sweet smile, the soulless creature introduced the child to the Underground in the best way possible; by pretending to help them, and actually attempting to murder them. If not for the intrusion of Toriel, the story would have ended there and then; she chased Flowey away, leaving him to sneer and smirk at her (and the child's) retreating figures, sure that all he had to do was reach back to his SAVE--

...

Except he couldn't. At a loss, he began to stalk the child, watching the adventures (and misadventures) through the Ruins of the first Home he'd known. By stalking away like the fucking creep he was, he saw precisely where his powers had gone. Overruled- by a child. A child who clearly has...no idea what they're doing. A child with a very familiar fashion taste...

He thinks he sees someone familiar in them. And thus, he sees someone familiar in them. They become, for all intents and purposes, Chara. Taking upon a projection of their one, true friend by desperation, Flowey follows them obsessively not only through the Ruins, but throughout the entirely of the game. As per Frisk's application, it initially does not go too well. Be it curiosity of genuine mistakes, the child- Chara, does not make the right decisions.

Flowey is there to ensure they know it in several ways. His stalking goes to the extent of whispering into echo flowers; taunting them with either the concept of how they will be replaced by Toriel ("She'll find another kid, and forget about you. You'll NEVER see her again.") or the fact that they had killed her.

With Chara back in play, Flowey finally gets the opportunity he was seeking; when the child reaches the castle, their battle with Asgore causes enough distraction for him to attain the human souls, mercilessly slaughtering his own father, and corrupting the child's SAVE. 'ERASING' it. Which is perfectly fine, seeing as he has a more than suitable replacement for them. A file of the child's death, something they can both enjoy together....over and over again.

Or not. After a long battle, truly worthy of the game's bullet hell style, the child's influence causes the souls to riot, leaving Flowey vulnerable. The child either kills him; proving what he knew they always had in them- a killer, or spares him, leaving him...incapable of understanding their kindness. Whatever route they take, he suggests to them a better ending. What if they make friends with this person? What if they prove to him that they can do all of this without hurting a fly?

Another means to an end. Without the more maleable souls of monsters to help curb the human souls, Flowey is without the power to contain them...and achieve his true form. Papyrus is a useful tool for that, helping him gather all the monsters that care for Chara oh so much to the castle, and putting a stop to their fight with Asgore before it even begins. After Chara does what they're goddamn told for once, and the ending seems...reasonably happy, he strikes, using their little pow-wow as the distraction needed to take the human souls- and taking the souls of Chara's friends for good measure.

In fact, for extra good measure, he takes everyone's souls. Every monster in the Underground, outside of Napstablook and Mettaton (who were making a very important mix tape). Finally, he has the power to achieve his real form.

Finally, he is Asriel Dreemurr once again. Not the small child he had once been...but edgy. Like, super edgy. Using his Amazing OC Do Not Steal, Asriel destroyed the timeline, ripping away the memories of everyone who loved Chara, with the intentions of taking their memories next. Why not? He wasn't done playing with them, yet.

But the child was done. Like, super done. With the last of their own power, Chara reached deep within his soul, SAVING not the game itself, but their friends, one by one. And one by one, the strangest feeling began to overcome him. He was awash with the sense of how much everyone loved this child, awash with...Feelings(TM).

And when Chara had finished collecting their standard RPG party, they reached out one more time, to SAVE one more person. Him.

Within the span of about 0.2 seconds, the game then proceeds to make everyone cry like a total woobie as cutscenes of Asriel helping Chara home and being a family play. He proceeds to pour his heart out to Chara, telling them his true reason for doing this; he can't let them go. He isn't ready to say goodbye to someone like them. With the emotions of everyone else in the Underground, and his own, Asriel ends the fight.

He recognizes and acknowledges that the human before him is not Chara, being the first to actually ask for their name. Frisk...that's a nice name. Explaining to them that as a flower, he was not capable of feeling love, he apologizes for the harm he's caused, and intends to set things right by giving back the souls currently under his possession.

And despite the fact that letting those souls go will end his life once more, he holds onto them just long enough to do one more thing. Break the barrier that has kept monsters trapped under the mountain for so long. Saying his final goodbyes and ensuring that you will never ever be happy again Asriel does what he really doesn't want to do.

He lets go.

In some timelines, that's where his story ends. But in others, should Frisk make the journey back to the flower patch on which they fell; back to Chara's grave, they'll find him there. Waiting for life to return to what it was. As Frisk seeks to give him company, he goes on to explain the logistics of buying and selling slaves just what happened on the surface; that he was not in control of his body, and that it was Chara who had sought the destruction he'd died refusing.

He admits to them that perhaps, Chara wasn't the greatest person...and that maybe, he'd been projecting them onto Frisk. Just a little. Reminding them that once returned to a flower, he really would no longer be himself, Asriel assures Frisk that despite it all, he is happy with the outcome, even if it took a long time to achieve. That he's happy where he is, because after all... somebody has to take care of these flowers. Then he gently sends them on their way.

Frisk...don't you have anything better to do.

Finally, the credits roll.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE I SCREAM. THE MODS SCREAM TOO. EVERYBODY SCREAMS. MISTAKES WERE MADE.

In one last appearance, Flowey appears to the player when they reopen their game. Different, subdued, he speaks of how everything is finally right. There's no more danger to it all, nothing that could get in the way of their happy ending...

Except for you. But why would you consider that? Let Frisk be happy. Let Frisk live their life.

...And if you can't help yourself, at least have the god grace... to take his memories away too.

He'll see you later.

Chara.

In Wonderland apparently. Once again, bad decisions have been made.

Abilities/Special Powers:
Walking's for chumps: Flowey doesn't necessarily walk so much as he's a flower? He's a flower. Whilst it's nowhere near the style of teleportation skill that Sans is capable of, when Flowey dives underground he can cross fairly large distances before having to resurface. The style of surface that he appears on/in (stone, waist deep water, steel platforms over lava) don't seem to have a factor on his 'root system' either. If he even has one.

Little white... 'friendliness pellets': He can make you a magic bullet birthday card! Or make you into a magic bullet birthday card.

Flower Power: Flowey and vines go together like- flowers and vines. Whilst he uses these a great deal more once he has some souls, he's also proven to use vines to blockade doors, set off switches, and probably all sorts of tricksy things. Because he's tricksy like that.

SAVE our SOULs: Flowey has the ability to both SAVE at a specific point of time, and then LOAD to that SAVE point later on. Completely nullified by humans with this same ability (he won't be pulling this shit with both Frisk and Chara in game...maybe. I mean really why not time shenanigan while you can we all die someday).

SOUL Absorption: Flowey was created for the soul purpose of acting as a vessel for the human souls taken by Asgore. Not only is he capable of handling up to six (SIX!) human souls at a time- he can also absorb every soul in the goddamn Underground. Nice work Alphys, always knew you could do it. The amount of souls Flowey has obtained affect his skills greatly:

-Whack just a few souls into him, and he'll turn into an Eldritch horror. And for the low, low price of $9.95 per month, he could be LOADing your SAVE file and killing you over and over again through a series of horrific attacks, including (but not exclusive to) more bullet hell, flies, whatever... those things are?, eggs????????

-Whack just about every soul you can get your hands on and he'll get really Edgy. Like, super Edgy. Dooper. THE WORLD IS BLACK AND HEARTS ARE COLD THERE'S NO HOPE THAT'S WHAT WE'RE

I'm Better Than You: He's ready to judge y'all for your sins. Laugh about them for a good half hour. Then judge some more. This isn't an ability but it sure is special and I needed some way to break up that last ability.

Third-Person Sample:

Who gives a flower a phone?

His brow furrows as he stares down at it, expression considerably petulant for a flower that has no soul; usually, that would be his first problem. Dealing with... those faint impressions of what it's like, to have a soul again...it's not easy. The more he catches himself out pretending, the worse it is. He has no one to blame but himself.

But.

A phone. He supposes it's some kind of phone, though the technology is in itself an oddity. Plenty of junk makes its way into the mountain, but nothing quite like this. It has to be human, but it can't be those humans. It's a testament, he thinks. To just how far away he is from what could be considered- should never again be considered Home.

Flowey attempts a self imposed exile. But it failed. And he knows who to blame; exactly who to blame. Regardless of whatever 'truth' anyone else spits out at him, it has to be Frisk. It's always Frisk, playing hero, SAVING EVERYONE. He'd warned them, hadn't he? Asriel had told them Flowey was better off left alone.

If they're expecting him to be grateful for this, they've got another thing coming. Whatever whimsical emotions inspired them... he can't say the sentiment is returned.

First-Person Sample:

[The feed begins with a very loud WHOP as something yellow and cream and very much not in frame flies right back out of frame. The view after that isn't much; just some of the gardens. From ground level. There's some kind of beetle, swinging haphazardly back and forth on a stick of grass-]

Howdy! [Oh, well that's nice. Whoever's feed this is, so bright and chipper sounding- maybe they're just a little bit artsy. Trying out for camera school.

...Or something.]
Golly, this sure is a big place! Someone could wander around forever, and never even step foot into the house!

That's why I was hoping someone might have a little info for their good friend Flowey. [That bug is getting...much closer to the camera now. Oh dear.] I'm looking for someone. Tiny, striped sweater. You've probably spoken to them a dozen times and never thought about asking their name-

[And the beetle is now on the camera. There's a pause as whoever's speaking

WHOP

definitely...does not.

Headbutt.

The camera.

....

Again.

Before they continue, just as cheerful as before.]
But if you happen to know where Frisk is hiding, why...you'd be saving me a lot of bother.
